Pour la première fois, Wombat Cult a creusé jusqu’en Chine pour discuter avec Dryad, chanteur de Bliss-Illusion, autour de son projet solo : Tassi.
Avec « Northland I & Northland II », édités chez Anesthetize pour l’Europe, Tassi propose un voyage à la fois onirique et ésotérique, à l’entre-monde, bercé par une poésie d’une grande délicatesse, ayant réussi à naître au travers de cet rencontre des univers, horizons entre Post-Black Metal, Shoegaze, Ambient et culture Bouddhiste.
Une oeuvre qui ne ressemble à aucune autre, une expédition sonore qui rappelle par sa modalité de lecture spiralaire Séjour Sur Les Monts Fuchun peint, entre 1348 et 1850 par Huang Gongwang, sur un rouleau de 7 mètres, laissant l’amateur se perdre dans un paysage qui semble infini. Un infini que Tassi nous propose de traverser pour atteindre un monde apaisé, sage entre Homme et Dieu.

Wombat Cult : Bonjour Dryad,
Tassi est ton projet personnel, décroché musicalement de Bliss-Illusion chez qui tu officies en tant que chanteur.
Comment est né ce nouveau projet ? Comment le décrirai-tu ?

Tassi: Bonjour, je suis heureux de pouvoir accepter ton interview !
Je pense que la naissance de Tassi est apparue il y a longtemps dans mon esprit, je l’avais rangé dans un coin de ma tête comme une malédiction. J’avais le projet et l’idée de créer un projet solo. C’est seulement l’année dernière qui a été vraiment spéciale pour moi, m’ayant permis de finalement concrétiser ce projet.
Présentons brièvement la situation: je perçois et pense que Tassi est semblable à ma vie antérieure. Le monde dans lequel ce projet évolue est un très bel endroit, où la connaissance et la sagesse sont plus élevées que sur notre terre.
Je pense que ma demeure s’y trouve.

Wombat Cult :  En Europe, tout comme dans une très grande partie du monde, Nous découvrons tout juste cette poétique proposition que tu nous offres avec cet album compilant Northland I et Northland II.
Cependant, ces deux chapitres de l’histoire de Tassi ont eu le droit en Chine a une sortie indépendante.
Pour quelles raisons sont intervenues ces deux modalités de distributions ?

Tassi : Je pense que je dois cette opportunité à mon bon ami William pour avoir permis que mon album puisse sortir en Europe. Bien sûr, il y a aussi le label Anesthetize qui a joué un rôle primordial. J’apprécie vraiment ce qu’ils ont fait pour moi.
Je sais qu’il est très difficile de faire comme en Chine pour distribuer Tassi. Mon label chinois ne vend qu’en Chine.
Sous les conseils de William notre manager pour Bliss-Illusion, on a voulu sortir une version propre à l’Europe pour parvenir à guider mes compositions jusqu’à vous.

Wombat Cult : Avec Tassi, on ressent beaucoup d’influences allant d’Envy à Alcest tout en s’engouffrant avec fascination dans un brouillard d’Ambient qui vient nous bercer, nous envelopper, dans ‘univers assez singulier que tu as réussi à bâtir.
Quelles ont été les influences, les sonorités qui ont  permis de faire immerger une telle création entre Black Metal, Shoegaze, Ambient et parfois même Post-Rock ?

Tassi : Quand j’étais enfant, j’aimais les choses belles et chaleureuses, en particulier celles pleines de divinité et de romance.
L’année dernière a été une année terrible pour les gens du monde entier. J’espère que le monde ira bientôt mieux. J’espère vraiment que les gens retrouveront ce sentiment de chaleur, d’apaisement lorsqu’ils entendront mon album.
J’aime beaucoup le Black Metal, genre que j’ai découvert en 2005. A cette époque, mes groupes préférés étaient Gorgoroth, Emperor, Summoning, Darkthrone, Alcest ou encore Lifelover.
Plus tard, lorsque j’ai entendu Sigur Rós pour la première fois, j’ai pleuré, de manière significative. Cela a duré assez longtemps avant que je puisse m’en remettre.
Ma femme m’a dit: « La plus grande musique du monde, quand tu l’entends, ton premier sentiment est, doit être : c’est vraiment super d’être en vie. ».
En un mot, j’espère que les gens pourront retrouver cette chaleur qui nous manque, le plus tôt possible.

Wombat Cult :  Le rendu final en terme qualitatif, d’un point de vue sonore, est vraiment superbe.
Comment s’est déroulé l’enregistrement de Northland I et II ?
Quelles sont les modulations en matière de travail autour des compositions en passant d’un travail de groupe, avec Bliss-Illusion, à un projet solo, avec Tassi ?

Tassi : Merci.
Pendant la période épidémique, en raison des limitations, la qualité d’enregistrement n’était pas très satisfaisante. Je n’avais pas accès à tout le matériel nécessaire pour enregistrer dans de bonnes conditions. Cela a été plus long que je ne l’avais prévu.

Les œuvres de Bliss-Illusion sont principalement composées par le guitariste, Wang, désormais. Au sein de la formation, je m’occupe principalement d’écrire les paroles. J’ai donc le temps pour travailler pleinement mon groupe solo. Ce n’est pas une manière de travailler que je pourrai comparer.

Wombat Cult : La sortie de Northland I et II au format CD est prévue le 10 avril. Cette journée correspond au festin du Grand Gardien, ainsi que la fête des pères, mais c’est également le fête du Dieu Dragon, tout comme celle de Buddha, comme vous l’avez mentionné dans votre description.
Pourrai tu revenir sur ces événements, nous les introduire au sein de la culture chinoise ?

Tassi: Pour être honnête, je n’ai pas grand chose à dire. Je pense juste que ce jour est de bon augure, et c’est le premier jour des vacances (samedi). Il y est facile de se détendre. Bien sûr, j’ai choisi de sortir l’album au festival du pharmacien Buddha dans l’espoir que cet album puisse aider le monde à dissiper l’épidémie le plus rapidement possible.

Wombat Cult : L’artwork du CD regroupant Northland I et Northland II fait résonner en moi la couverture de l’album « Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame » de Summoning et m’intrigue d’autant plus de par la multitude de symbolisme en présence.
Tu as travaillé pour cette conception visuelle avec Alcide Nathanaël, inconnu dans la sphère Metal mais réputé pour son travail dans l’univers du Tarot.
Peux-tu nous guider au sein de cette création ? Comment s’est déroulée cette collaboration ?

Tassi : M. Alcide a été contacté par mon agent William. J’aime beaucoup ses œuvres.
Bien sûr, je suis fasciné par le mysticisme depuis mon plus jeune âge, et ses œuvres me rappellent une couleur romantique et mystérieuse. Je pense que cette oeuvre, en particulier, représente très bien ces deux albums.

Wombat Cult : Tassi porte une dimension ésotérique et spirituelle forte. Nous retrouvons  à plusieurs moments des sonorités nous ouvrant à les méditations mais surtout  des ambiances et atmosphères, qui vu de l’Europe sont uniques, et singulières au coeur des projets Post-Black Metal ou Blackgaze, à l’exception du Kodama d’Alcest qui cependant restait en surface autour de cette dimension.
Nous serions ravis d’avoir les clés pour accéder à cet univers d’une incommensurable richesse.
Pourrais-tu nous apporter quelques clés de lecture sur cette dimension culturelle que tu as su marier avec finesse chez Tassi ?

Tassi : Tassi est situé dans un monde entre l’Humanité et Dieu. Je crois que c’est aussi l’endroit où je résidais. J’en ai conscience grâce à des bribes de ma vie antérieure.
En fait, le rôle d’Uni (l’amante représentée dans l’album) est une pièce maîtresse dans la croyance de Tassi. Elle n’est pas une personne, elle est un visage, un voyage à travers plein de divinités. J’ai perçu cette histoire durant une période où j’étais très fatigué du monde.
Plus tard, j’ai rencontré mon âme soeur et ma foi. Puis j’ai compris ce que je voulais dire dans ce monde. Je suis très reconnaissant pour tout cela. Tassi voyage entre mes vues sur ce monde céleste et mon existence terrienne.
J’espère que les gens tristes arriveront à mener leur gouvernail vers une belle vie, que leurs ennuis et inquiétudes n’aboutissent pas, et s’évaporent.

Wombat Cult : Pour la création des paroles que nous pouvons retrouver dans Northland I et Northland II,vous avez indiqué avoir utilisé une langue que vous avez personnellement créée.
Comment cette idée de créer votre propre monde linguistique s’est il organisée ? Comment avez-vous réussi à construire cette langue nouvelle ? A partir de quelles langues, quels dialectes, avez-vous établi ces nouveaux mots ?

Je suis très sensible aux langages et symboles étranges, ésotériques depuis que je suis très jeune. A cette époque, je me parlais très souvent à moi-même. Malgré de nombreuses inspections et tests, sans trouver d’anomalies particulières, ma famille qui s’inquiétait beaucoup lors de mes premières discussions, avec mon propre être, a commencé peu à peu à s’y habituer.
Cette situation est encore d’actualité, mais cela m’arrive moins.
Les mots de l’album proviennent de Caelum Deva, et c’est tout. J’aime le latin et le sanskrit, mais j’étudie très peu, quand j’entends leur prononciation, je tombe amoureux d’eux.
Ce sont ces deux langues qui m’inspirent. En fait, je veux essayer d’exprimer des « paroles », essayer de nouvelles sonorités, expérimenter tout simplement avec différentes couleurs pour le troisième album (Caelum Deva III). Ma femme est peintre, elle peut mélanger des couleurs gracieuses, créer de nouvelles perspectives, c’est ce que je veux atteindre mais cela ne veut pas dire que le troisième album sera un album instrumental.
Nous sommes justement en train de travailler dessus.

Wombat Cult : L’album raconte une histoire, presque mythologique, qui m’a rappelé au doux souvenirs des Nibelungen, et de l ‘amour chevaleresque entre Siegrid et Kriemhild.
Quelle est l’histoire qui nous est contée derrière ces mots nouveaux et ces expressions musicales singulières ?

En fait, l’inspiration provient de la chanson « Leave absara Deva » de Bliss-Illusion ainsi que de « Caelum Deva », issu de l’album de Tassi. Ces histoires sont toutes issues d’un recueil d’histoires courtes.
Tassi est un ménestrel qui vit dans un autre temps et un autre espace. J’ai créé le calendrier et les mois du Royaume du Nord. Avant de rencontrer Uni, c’était une personne très triste et difficile. Ils se sont rencontrés au bord d’un lac (Lour tears Lake).
Uni est l’incarnation de Deva (Deva est une divinité, qui dans la pratique du Bouddhisme se juxtapose avec le concept de Karma).
Elle est venue à Tassi et lui a appris beaucoup de sagesse et de connaissances. Elle lui a également révélé de nombreux mystères de l’univers. Plus tard, Uni quitta Tassi et se rendit dans un espace dimensionnel supérieur (le monde de Bouddha). Tassi la chercha sans relâche.
Grâce à la sagesse et aux capacités qu’Uni lui a données, il a voyagé à travers le temps et l’espace, parcourant l’univers jusqu’à retrouver Uni.
En fait, le personnage d’Uni reflète ma femme dans la réalité. Elle m’a tant appris.

Wombat Cult :  Vu d’Europe, la scène Metal chinoise est assez peu visible hormis quelques exceptions comme pour le cas de Zuriaake.
En France, nous avons la chance d’avoir un spécialiste en la matière, William fondateur de Scholomance Webzine, qui s’est énormément penché sur la question, et avec lequel vous semblez couramment converser.
Au-delà de cet apport considérable et le travail presque quotidien opéré par Scholomance serait-il possible, pour ouvrir le public européen à de nouvelles formations, de nous conseiller plusieurs formations chères à vos yeux ?

Tassi : William est vraiment une très belle personne ! Il m’a beaucoup apporté et nous soutiens énormément avec mon groupe, Bliss-Illusion, je l’apprécie vraiment.
Pour être honnête, j’écoute très, très peu de groupes chinois, donc je n’ai pas de groupes à recommander. Je suis beaucoup plus intéressé par ce qu’il se passe en Europe.
J’espère que Bliss-Illusion pourra se produire dans différents pays d’Europe.

For the first time, Wombat Cult has dug to China to discuss with Dryad, singer of Bliss-Illusion, around his solo project: Tassi.
With « Northland I & Northland II », released by Anesthetize for Europe, Tassi offers a journey that is both dreamlike and esoteric, between the worlds, rocked by a poetry of great delicacy, having succeeded in being born through this meeting of universes, horizons between Post-Black Metal, Shoegaze, Ambient and Buddhist culture.
A work that is unlike any other, a sound expedition that recalls by its spiral reading mode The Fuchun Mountains painted, between 1348 and 1850 by Huang Gongwang, on a 7-meter roll, leaving the amateur to get lost in a landscape that seems endless. Wombat Cult: Hello Dryad, Tassi is your personal project, musically away from Bliss-Illusion in which you officiate as a singer.
How is born this new project ? How would you describe it?

Tassi: Hello, I’m glad to be able to accept your interview!
I think the birth of Tassi appeared in my mind a long time ago, I had it put away in the back of my head like a curse. I had the project and the idea to become a solo project. It was only the last year that was really special for me, allowing me to finally make this project a reality.
Let’s briefly present the situation: I perceive and think that Tassi is similar to my previous life. The world in which this project operates is a very beautiful place, where knowledge and wisdom are higher than on our earth.
I think that there is my home.

Wombat Cult: In Europe, like in a very large part of the world, We are just discovering this poetic proposal that you offer us with this album compiling Northland I and Northland II.
However, these two chapters of Tassi’s history have had the right to an independent release in China.
What are the reasons for these two distribution methods?

Tassi: I think I owe it to my good friend William that my album can be released in Europe. Of course, there are also the anesthetize label. I really appreciate what they have done for me.
I know that it is very difficult to do as in China to distribute Tassi. My Chinese label only sells in China. Under the advice of William our manager for Bliss-Illusion, we wanted to release a specific version for Europe to manage and guide my compositions to you.

Wombat Cult: With Tassi, we feel a lot of influences going from Envy to Alcest by rushing with fascination in a fog of Ambient which comes to embrace us, to envelop us, in a rather singular universe that you have succeeded to build.
What were the influences, the sounds that made it possible to see such a creation emerge between Black Metal, Shoegaze, Ambient and sometimes even Post-Rock?

Tassi: When I was a child, I liked warm and beautiful things, especially those full of divinity and romance. Last year was a terrible year for people all over the world. I hope the world will get better soon. I really hope people will feel warm and happy when they will hear my album.
I really love Black Metal that I discovered in 2005. At that time, my favorite bands were Gorgoroth, Emperor, summoning, Darkthrone, Alcest, lifelover.
Later, when I first heard for the first time Sigur Rós, I cried during a long time.
My wife told me, « the greatest music in the world is when you hear it, your first feeling is: it’s really great to be alive. ».
In a word, I hope people could regain their missing warmth as soon as possible.

Wombat Cult: The final result in terms of quality, from a sound point of view, is really superb.
How did the recording of Northland I and II ?
What are the modulations in terms of work around the compositions, moving from a band work, with Bliss-Illusion, to a solo project, with Tassi?

Tassi : Thanks.
During the epidemic period, due to limitations, the recording quality was not very satisfactory. I did not have access to all the necessary equipment to record in good conditions.
It took longer than I expected.

Wombat Cult: The release date of Northland I and II in CD is the 10 april. This day corresponds to the feast of the Great Guardian and all the Day of the Brave Father but it is also the festival of the Dragon King and the festival of the pharmacist Buddha like you mentioned in your description.
Can you go back on these cultural, spiritual events, explain them to us ?

Tassi: To be honest, I don’t have many things to say. I just think this day is auspicious, and it’s the first day of the holiday (Saturday). It’s easy to relax.
Of course, I choose to release the album in the pharmacist Buddha festival in the hope that this album can help the world dispel the plague as soon as possible.

Wombat Cult: The artwork of the CD bringing together Northland I and Northland II makes the cover of Summoning’s « Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame » resonate in me and intrigues medue to the multitude of symbolism involved.
You worked for this visual design with Alcide Nathanaël, unknown in the Metal sphere but renowned for his work in the universe of Tarot. Can you guide us through this creation? How did this collaboration go?

Tassi: Mr. Alcide was contacted by my agent William. I really like his works.
Of course, I’ve been fascinated by mysticism since I was very young, and his works exude a romantic and mysterious color to me. I think they are very suitable for these two albums, Northland I and Northland II.

Wombat Cult: Tassi carries a strong esoteric and spiritual dimension. We find at several times sonorities opening us to meditation, which seen from Europe are unique, and singular at the heart of Post-Black Metal or Blackgaze projects, with the exception of Kodama by Alcest which however remained on the surface around this dimension. We would be delighted to have the keys to access this universe of immeasurable richness.
Could you provide us with some keys to understanding this cultural dimension that you have been able to combine with finesse at Tassi?

Tassi: Tassi is located in a world between Man and God. I believe that it is also the place where I used to stay. Of course, it’s due to the fate, I also know something about my previous life.
In fact, the role of Uni (Tassi’s lover) has already become Tassi’s belief.
She is not a person, she is a journey, a face full of divinity. I used to be very tired of the world.
Later, I met my lover and my faith. Then I understood what I meant in this world. I am very grateful for all of this.
I hope that sad people will manage to lead their rudder to a good life, that their troubles and worries disappear, go away.

Wombat Cult: For the lyrics, which we discover in the heart of the diptych Northland I and Northland II, you indicated that you used a language that you personally created.
How did this idea of creating your own linguistic world come about? How did you manage to build this new language? From which languages, which dialects, have you established these new words?

I have been very sensitive to strange language and symbols since I was very young. At that time, I always like to talk to myself. My family used to worry that they didn’t find any abnormality after the inspection, and gradually they got used to it. This situation continues to the present, but less than before.
The words on the album come from Caelum Deva, and that’s it. I like Latin and Sanskrit, but I study very little, when I hear their pronunciation, I fall in love with them.
These two languages inspire me. Actually, I want to try to express « lyrics », try new sounds, just experiment with different colors for the third album (Caelum Deva III). My wife is a painter, she can mix graceful colors, create new perspectives, that’s what I want to achieve but that doesn’t mean that the third album will be an instrumental album.
We are just working on it.

Wombat Cult: The album tells a story, almost mythological, which reminded me to the sweet but dramatic memories of the Nibelungen, the chivalrous love between Siegrid and Kriemhild.
What is the story that is told to us behind these new words and these singular musical expressions?

In fact, the inspiration and theme of Bliss Illusion’s song « Leave Absara Deva » and « Caelum Deva » from my personal album are all from a collection of short stories.
Tassi is a minstrel who lives in another time and space. I created the schedule and months of the Northern Kingdom.
Before meeting uni, Tassi was a very sad and difficult person.
They met them by a lake (Lour tears Lake).
In fact, Uni was the incarnation of Deva (Deva is a deity, which in the practice of Buddhism is juxtaposed with the concept of Karma).
She came to Tassi and taught him a lot of wisdom and knowledge, including many mysteries in the universe.
Later, Uni left Tassi and went to a higher dimensional space (Buddha world). Tassi was looking for her all the time.
Through the wisdom and ability that Uni gave him, he traveled beyond time and space in the universe until he saw Uni again.
In fact, the role of Uni reflects my wife in reality.
She brought me so much.

Wombat Cult: From Europe, the Chinese Metal scene is not very visible except for a few exceptions as in the case of Zuriaake.
In France, we are fortunate to have a specialist in the subject, William founder of Scholomance Webzine, who has given a lot of thought to the issue, and with whom you seem to be conversing frequently.
Beyond this considerable contribution and the almost daily work carried out by Scholomance, would it be possible, to open the European public to new bands, to advise us on several formations that are dear to you?

William is really a wonderful person! He gave a lot to me and my band, and I really appreciate him. To be honest, I listen to very, very few Chinese bands, so there is no band to recommend. I’m still looking forward to the performance market in Europe. I hope my band, Bliss-Illusion, will have the possibility to perform in various countries in Europe. In short, I will cherish every opportunity to contact you.
