Le groupe de space doom Vestjysk Orken est de retour avec une second album « Full Dark No Stars ».
Avec leur premier effort « Cosmic Desert Fuzz », le groupe danois, nous avait offert une envoûtante expédition spatiale mêlant le doux ronronnement de la scène doom à de multiples références qu’elles soient littéraires ou bien cinématographiques.
Du Dune de Frank Herbert jusqu’au Solaris de Tarkovski, l’espace fantasmé par Vestjysk Orken se révélait sous des astres d’une beauté attirante et mystérieuse.
Nous laissions ainsi, il y a tout juste deux ans, nos cosmonautes du doom sur une terre encore inconnue pleine de promesses où les particules ambiantes sentaient bon la fuzz.
Avec « Full Dark No Stars », Vestjysk Orken fait le grand saut. Il nous propulse au fin fond du cosmos au milieu d’une effroyable obscurité où la seule limite semble être la résonance des accords.
Composé de quatre morceaux, répartis de manière équitable par face sur le vinyle, Vestjysk Orken n’hésite pas à apporter des influences nouvelles à sa proposition.
De la terre ferme jusqu’aux tréfonds de l’espace, le groupe sait mouvoir son voyage sonore afin de proposer un album aux lentes transitions développant le caractère initiatique de leur aventure offrant surtout une lecture meta au genre.
« Full Dark No Stars » s’ouvre sur le morceau Forbidden Planet. Cette entrée en la matière montre la capacité du groupe à déstructurer la notion même de riffs à sonorités Doom. Ils usent des mêmes combinaisons de notes et d’accords, de manière répétées dans une structure alternative, pour nous offrir une exploration de leur univers, de leur nouvelle destination à travers les astres en laissant leur riff pleinement respirer l’exploitant dans ses moindres recoins. Ce morceau introductif d’une quinzaine de minutes, ponctué par une voix informatisée rappelant tout un pan de la science-fiction de Starcrash à 2001, L’odyssée De L’Espace, est une grande réussite.
Cette planète oubliée aux formes de créations célestes antérieure à l’humanité dont le secret de la création est perdu au coeur de l’univers prend toute son ampleur dans cette oscilliation sonore et rythmique qui attire et ne nous lâche plus, devenant une entité éternelle, dont le mystère semble bien gardé par Vestsjysk Orken.

En quittant cette planète destructrice de par ses savoirs antiques, menaçant la vie et la civilisation humaine, nous embarquons dans le vaisseau pour conclure cette face A, qui ne cesse de décupler sa puissance avec une montée pleine de rebondissement dont le morceau le nom du pilote de notre expédition : Kurt Russel.
Le riff accompagne le tempérament lunatique de l’acteur bien connu dans le cinéma de John Carpenter. Nous traversons une véritable vague rythmique qui joue sur ses accélérations et ses ralentissements portant le morceau à juste milieu jouant sur le fil du rasoir et réussit pourtant à nous saisir entre ambiances heavy metal et atmosphères Doom.
Cette première face, nous donne notre point de départ de manière sonique et spatiale ainsi que notre guide et hôte, le fascinant héros de The Thing et Les Aventures de Jack Burton.
Elle rappelle l’univers de Vestjysk Orken et nous prépare à une face B capable d’un spectre à la fois troublant et fascinant tant elle souhaite explorer de nouveaux horizon, nous inviter au voyage au plus profond de l’obscurité, aux confins de l’espace.
La face B débute sur le morceau A boy and His Dog, apporte une paix et une tranquilité à cette album, débutant par un tapis d’accord accueillant ces deux nouveaux passagers que sont cet enfant et son chien, entités destinées perdues à tout jamais dans le cosmos ayant eu finalement la joie de croiser le chemin du vaisseau Vestjysk Orken.
Une voix revient en boucle à la manière d’un mantra scandant « The beast that shouted at the heart of the world », résonne comme un appel de détresse dont seul l’infini vide spatial puisse devenir porteur.
A la manière du morceau d’ouverture, ce premier morceau de la seconde partie ne cesse de s’élever, souhaitant atteindre des cieux toujours plus majestueux éclairant la pénombre et portant un message de vie et d’espoir à travers l’immensité interplanétaire.
Une fois l’équipage au complet, le commandant de bord Kurt Russel, peut se permettre de s’enfoncer dans les abysses interstellaires à bord du Vestjysk Orken afin de dévoiler le point d’orgue de ce voyage à la rencontre de l’inconnu avec la très réussie clôture qu’est Journey.
Les notes s’échappent s’envolent prennent le temps de respirer et offre une spatialisation merveilleuse, tant l’errance au coeur de l’obscurité semble lumineuse. Dépassant à la fois le temps et l’espace la fin de ce second album à la quête de la septième planète est éblouissant et rappelle à quel point Vestjysk Orken possède une amplitude musicale qui présage un avenir et de futures conquêtes spatiales radieuses.

Il y a quelques années, Yuri Gagarin ouvrait le chemin de la conquête spatiale sur fond de Doom psychédélique inspirant des formations telles que Vestjysk Orken ou encore Vinnum Sabbathi qui actuellement à force de définir de nouvelles sonorités ouvrent la porte à un sous-genre nouveau, le doom interstellaire, prenant l’auditeur et lui proposant une visite des mondes perdues, des univers inexplorées, en tant que guide, mais surtout allant à la rencontre de l’inconnu délivrant une conception musicale nouvelle.
Ce nouvel album « Full Dark No Stars », pousse plus loin le travail de Vestjysk Orken et offre un second effort obsédant qui prend toute son ampleur au fur et à mesure d’écoutes, là où le premier album était parfois hésitant dans ses directions.

The space doom band Vestjysk Orken is back with a second album « Full Dark No Stars ».
With their first effort « Cosmic Desert Fuzz », the Danish trio, offered us a bewitching space expedition mixing the gentle purring of the doom scene with multiple references, whether literary or cinematographic.
From the Dune of Frank Herbert to the Solaris of Tarkovski, the space fantasized by Vestjysk Orken was revealed under stars of an attractive and mysterious beauty.
We left our doom cosmonauts just two years ago on a still unknown land full of promise where the ambient particles smelled of fuzz.
With “Full Dark No Stars”, Vestjysk Orken takes the plunge. It propels us into the depths of the cosmos in the middle of a frightful darkness where the only limit seems to be the resonance of the chords.
Composed of four tracks, distributed fairly on each side of the vinyl, Vestjysk Orken does not hesitate to bring new influences to his proposal.
From the mainland to the depths of space, the group knows how to move its sound journey in order to offer an album with slow transitions developing the initiatory character of their adventure offering above all a meta reading to the genre.
« Full Dark No Stars » opens on the song Forbidden Planet. This introduction to the subject shows the band’s ability to deconstruct the notion of Doom-sounding riffs.
They use the same combinations of notes and chords, repeatedly in an alternative structure, to offer us an exploration of their universe, their new destination through the stars by letting their riff fully breathe the operator in every corner. .
This fifteen minutes introductory piece, punctuated by a computerized voice recalling a whole section of science fiction from Starcrash to 2001, A Space Odyssey, is a great success. This forgotten planet in the form of celestial creations previous to humanity whose secret of creation is lost in the heart of the universe takes its full extent in this sound and rhythmic oscillation which attracts and never lets go, becoming an eternal entity, whose mystery seems well kept by Vestjysk Orken.

Leaving this destructive planet with its ancient knowledge, threatening human life and civilization, we embark on the ship to conclude this A side, which continues to increase its power tenfold with a full rebounding climb, including the name of the pilot from our expedition: Kurt Russel.
The riff accompanies the whimsical temperament of the well-known actor in John Carpenter’s cinema.
We cross a real rhythmic wave which plays on its accelerations and its decelerations bringing the piece to a happy medium, playing on the razor’s edge, and yet manages to seize us between heavy metal atmospheres and Doom atmospheres.
This first side, gives us our starting point in a sonic and spatial way as well as our guide and host, the fascinating hero of The Thing and Big Trouble In Little China.
It recalls the universe of Vestsjysk Orken and prepares us for a B-side capable of a spectrum that is both disturbing and fascinating as it wishes to explore new horizons, to invite us to travel in the depths of darkness, on the borders of space.
The B side begins on the song A boy and His Dog, brings peace and tranquility to this album, starting with a carpet of chords welcoming these two new passengers that are this child and his dog, intended entities lost forever in the cosmos having finally had the joy of crossing the path of the Vestjysk Orken spacecraft.
A voice comes back in a loop, like a mantra chanting « The beast that shouted at the heart of the world », sounds like a distress call of which only the infinite space vacuum can become a carrier.
Like the opening piece, this first piece of the second part continues to rise, wishing to reach ever more majestic skies illuminating the darkness and carrying a message of life and hope through the interplanetary immensity.
Once the crew is complete, the captain Kurt Russel, can afford to sink into the interstellar abysses aboard the Vestjysk Orken to reveal the highlight of this journey to meet the unknown with the very successful fence that is Journey.
The notes escape, take flight, take the time to breathe and offer a marvelous spatialization, so much the wandering in the heart of the darkness now seems bright. Going beyond both time and space, the second album in search of the seventh planet is dazzling and recalls how Vestjysk Orken has a musical amplitude which bodes well for a future and radiant future space conquests.

A few years ago, Yuri Gagarin opened the way to space conquest against the backdrop of psychedelic Doom inspiring formations such as Vestjsysk Orken or Vinnum Sabbathi which currently by dint of defining new sounds open the door to a new sub-genre, the interstellar doom, taking the listener and offering him a tour of the lost worlds, unexplored universes, as a guide, but above all going to meet the unknown delivering a new musical conception.
This new album « Full Dark No Stars » takes Vestjysk Orken’s work further and offers a haunting second effort that takes on its full extent as it is listened to, where the first album was sometimes hesitant in its directions.
